ink archives is an exhibition about tattoo as a form of art.
when people turn their skin into a canvas for ink, they become art collectors. this exhibit was a celebration of five different art collectors and the intimate relationship they have with their artwork.
since tattoos can’t quite be put into glass boxes, minimal gallery display them on their natural canvas — through an opportunity to engage with the curators themselves, learn their stories, and discover their one-of-a-kind collections.
despite widely being considered “permanent,” tattoos are in fact the most ephemeral form of art. partnering with six different artists, we’ve captured them in photos and stories around the gallery, as a little attempt to transcend their striking brevity.
we created a design world for the exhibition, featuring a unique typeface and three different motion graphics symbolizing the abstract concept of tattooing. this project brought together talented young creatives and built a community through tattoos.
